1. Watch your Dates
Each tax year starts on 6th April, and with it brings a fresh set of tax allowances.  Tax can be saved by careful date planning, for example selling some assets which trigger a capital gain before 6th April, and others after.  The disposals will fall into two tax years and you will have two sets of capital gains tax allowances (the allowance for this tax year is £10,100).

Shan Ross' article (Charities criticised for poor management and training, 12th May) highlighted the findings of the New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) in relation to the lack of training that many charity trustees have, and the lack of appreciation of what their duties are.
